Brief
Anne M. Akol studied insect diversity, ecology and behavior with the aim of mitigating the less pleasant aspects of insect activity while harnessing the beneficial attributes for human well-being. Her research history has encompassed control of plant pests and insects of medical and veterinary importance, insect biodiversity assessments, honeybee health and insect pollination. Aside from my roles of training, supervision and research, She has worked to improve the training of insect sciences at Makerere University by introducing new courses and modules, strengthening experiential learning in teaching and realignment of curricula. She has a wealth of administrative experience having held various positions of responsibility within Makerere University, the latest being Chair/Head of Department from 2008 – 2016. She holds a BSc (Hons) degree in Zoology and Botany from Makerere University, a postgraduate diploma in Education from Makerere University, an MPhil degree in Applied Biology, specializing in entomology from the University of Cambridge (United Kingdom) and a PhD in Agricultural Entomology from Kenyatta University and the International Centre of Insect Physiology & Ecology (icipe), (Kenya. She is a fellow of the Cambridge Commonwealth Society and have been a visiting fellow at the Norman E. Borlaug Institute for International Agriculture, and at Texas A&M University, USA under the Faculty Exchange Programme for Africa.
