Fisheries Students Association of Makerere University (FISAMU)
FISAMU is an association of students’ and Allumni of Makerere University in the Fisheries and Aquaculture discipline/field that was founded in 2004 and registered in 2008. FISAMU is housed by the College of Natural Science (CONAS). FISAMU mandates to bring together all fisheries and aquaculture students/allumni of the great institution of Makerere University. The Patron, Dr.Gladys Bwanika provides a guiding and mentorship role to the association.
The association carries out varied academic and social activities including but not limited to: Annual Field Excursions to pertinent field stations like the Kajjansi Aquaculture Research and Development Centre; marked activities in celebrations of the World Fisheries’Day (21st Novermber); Exhibitions on Science Day marked on every 10th Oct, the World Science Day; Maintenance and renoviations of the Zoology aquarium and the College Display aquarium. Among the social activities includes the Annual Beach Bash to welcome Freshers; The Swimming gala between YR I, II, and III; FISAMU dinner for our dear finalists coupled with the Executive handover and last but not least, the democratically held annual FISAMU Executive Elections.
The FISAMU executive includes the: President, Vice President, General secretary, Speaker, Deputy Speaker, Treasurer, Information minister, Project Coordinator, Deputy Project Coordinator, GRC, Minister without portfolio and representative students from the three Academic year classes and Alumni.
This association was founded in 2004 by the then president, Mr. Muwonge Gilbert Bengo. It is a registered association with the students Guild and the registration was confirmed on 29th.oct.2008. It belongs to the college of natural sciences (CONAS).The aim of this students association is to bring together all the fisheries students of this great institution on board, both the alumni and the present students. We have a patron, Dr. Gladys Bwanika who is also one of our dearest lecturers at zoology. She has been there for us ever since and we pray that God rewards her abundantly as she continues to be with us. We carry out a lot of activities both academics and social ones. The academics ones include: the yearly visit to kajjansi fish farms in Entebbe, celebrations of the world fisheries day on 21st.nov, exhibitions on science day which starts three days earlier and climaxed on 10th.oct, the world science day and many others. The social activities include: the yearly enjoyable Beach bash to welcome freshers, FISAMU dinner for our dear finalists coupled with the executive handover.
We have a well-organized leadership structure which include: the president, the vice president, general secretary, the speaker, deputy speaker, treasurer, publicity, project coordinator, deputy project coordinator, minister without portfolio and representatives of all year of studies.

THE PATRON
We have a patron, Dr.Gladys Bwanika who is also one of dearest lecturers at Department of Zoology, Entomology and Fisheries Science. She has been there for us ever since and we pray that God/Allah rewards her abundantly as she continues to be with us.
ACTIVITIES
We carry out alo of activiies both academic and social ones, the academic ones includes: the yearly visi to Kajjansi fish farm in Entebbe, celebrations of the World Fisheries’Day on 21st Novermber, Exhibition on Science Day which starts three days earlier and climaxed on 10th Oct, the World Science Day, maintenance and renoviations of our two aquria , one on the ground floor of JICA building and another one in the Basement of Our Department of Zoology, Entomology and Fisheries Science.
The social activities include: the yearly enjoyable Beach Bash to welcome fresher,FISAMU organizes the swimming gala between year-1, year-2, and year-3, Like any other organization FISAMU hold elections democratically, FISAMU dinner for our dear finalists coupled with the executive handover.
