Message from the Head of Department
I warmly welcome you to the home page of the Department of Zoology, Entomology and Fisheries Sciences . We strive to equip our students with the knowledge and skills to meaningfully contribute to the development of natural resources for the welfare and benefit of society. The fact that many of our graduates occupy positions of authority in society as researchers, educators, entrepreneurs, administrators and consultants is testimony to the quality of training that we deliver. Taught courses include: Ecology of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, Genetics, Evolutionary Biology, Reproduction and developmental biology, Animal behavior, Animal physiology and Histology, Entomology, Parasitology, Hydrobiology, Invertebrate biology, Vertebrate biology, Biostatistics, Research methods, and Communication skills.
Additionally, applied courses like Commercial Entomology, Applied Parasitology, Integrated Pest and Vector management, Aquaculture and Wildlife management are also taught. Our emphasis is on aspects that are directly relevant to the economic developmental needs of Uganda/East Africa. The aim is to improve understanding of animals and their habitats and, cultivate skills in sustainable utilization of animal resources.
